Bible Verses for Anxiety: 8 Scriptures to Pray When You Are Worried
Updated: 2 hours ago
Anxiety can sit on the chest and fill the mind with what-ifs. The Bible does not pretend worry is not real, but it points us again and again to a God who is near, who cares and who gives peace. Here are eight verses to read slowly and pray when you are anxious.
1. Philippians 4:6
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
Turn each worry into a specific prayer. Name it, hand it to God and thank Him for what He has already done.
2. Philippians 4:7
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
God's peace does not depend on everything being solved. It guards your heart even while the situation is still unfinished.
3. 1 Peter 5:7
Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.
4. John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.
5. Psalm 46:1
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble.
6. Isaiah 41:10
Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will surely help you; I will uphold you with My right hand of righteousness.
7. Matthew 6:34
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.
8. Matthew 11:28
Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
A short prayer for when you are anxious
Lord, You see what is weighing on me right now. I give You this worry. Guard my heart and my mind with Your peace, help me trust You with tomorrow, and give me strength for today. In Jesus' name, amen.
A gentle note
Prayer and Scripture are a real help, and so is the support of others. If anxiety is affecting your sleep, work or daily life, please also talk to someone you trust, your pastor or a doctor. Asking for help is not a lack of faith.
